Certain protocols aim to offer multicast routing adapted to MANETs. To give an example, ad hoc QoS multicast (AQM) [BUR 05] is a multicast routing protocol with quality of service (QoS). AQM determines the bandwidth available to each node based on the resources made available to the neighborhood as a whole by other nodes. When a new AQM node wants to subscribe to a multicast session, AQM checks whether the available resources are sufficient to cater for this node. If enough resources are available, they are reserved for the use of the new node.
The choice of the AODV and OLSR protocols for study in the course of this chapter owes chance; above all, this choice stems from a need an established protocol (AODV) with a more (OLSR). Mounir Frikha as subjects nothing to to compare recent one 50 Ad Hoc Networks These protocols are very different from each other, given they belong to two different families. The AODV protocol is an on-demand (reactive) protocol with a flooding-based method of route discovery.
Link-state routing protocols Link-state routing protocols are more complex than distance-vector routing protocols. Each routing node creates and updates a topological database in addition to the routing table. The topological database contains all topological information received from nodes in the network. This information is sent out in specific messages known as link-state advertisements. Once the topological database has been updated, a routing node uses a shortest-path algorithm (typically Dijkstra’s algorithm [WAN 07]) to calculate its routing table.
